Rehabilitation of Neuropsychological Disorders
Written by a team of experienced scientists and professionals, the volume provides a universal taxonomy of neuropsychological abilities (emphasizing relatively simple terms), with a list of basic rehabilitation strategies to improve impairments identified in general cognitive domains.
Welcome to the website that provides the specific recommendations for neuropsychological weaknesses and community resources that are published in Rehabilitation of Neuropsychological Disorders: A Practical Guide for Rehabilitation Professionals (2nd Edition).
This website was designed to improve the clinical reports of rehabilitation professionals by providing practical recommendations for the specific cognitive weaknesses experienced by persons with neuropsychological disorders, as well as specific information about community resources that are available to them.
Identifying Specific Neuropsychological Weaknesses
At the top of the resources page there is a worksheet to identify the specific neuropsychological weaknesses demonstrated by the individual of concern.
If an area of neuropsychological weakness has been identified, then it is necessary to provide suggestions for methods by which to compensate for them.
Based on this worksheet, recommendations for each identified area of weakness can be accessed from the list of specific recommendations listed in the resources.
Rehabilitation professionals can either cut and paste these individual, specific recommendations and place them in their reports, or print out the specific pages to provide to their clients.
National and State Resources
In addition to providing recommendations to address specific cognitive weaknesses, this website provides information about national and state resources available to persons with neuropsychological disorders.
Specifically, information is available regarding state specific Vocational Rehabilitation, disability support, and independent living programs to increase the ability of individuals with disabilities to live independently.
Additional information is provided regarding state specific services to address guardianship/conservatorship issues for those individuals with the most severe neuropsychological disorders.
Rehabilitation professionals are encouraged to contact these state resources and obtain information about local resources (e.g., contact persons, phone numbers, websites, email addresses, etc.) that they can provide to their clients.
Provision of such specific information will greatly increase the likelihood that clients will contact these resources.
National Resources for Specific Types of Neuropsychological Disorders
Information is also provided about national resources for specific types of neuropsychological disorders (e.g., traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer's, etc.).
Rehabilitation professionals are encouraged to provide this general information to their clients, and also to identify the local support groups and resources to which their clients can be referred.
It goes without saying that all individuals with neuropsychological disorders are unique and will need evaluations and subsequent recommendations to be specifically designed to meet their needs.
Rehabilitation professionals will each have their own style of report writing and different ways in which they provide recommendations, although it is hoped that this website will provide a basic template from which all rehabilitation professionals can make their evaluations more clinically useful to those individuals they serve.
